Instead of another To Do List, I decided to share my ten best strategies for time management. I like strategies better than “Do This” tips because every family is unique and so are their time management challenges.
In addition to the tips found in the infographic, here are a few more things to consider:
- Keep positive. When a challenge arises I work hard to keep encouraging thoughts floating through my mind. It helps me to maintain focus and keep frustration in check.
- Limit Distractions. Since I work from home, as well as homeschool, I struggle with this one. When I really need to meet a deadline, I turn off the telephones and close my email program. Nothing can destroy a schedule faster than an unplanned phone call.
- Use travel time wisely. Whenever my family travels in the car, we have audiobooks at the ready. Over the years we’ve covered history, science, autobiographies and, of course, fun fiction.
- Frequent Breaks. Stepping away from a challenging problem is a necessity. Mini-breaks allow me to regain my creativity and energy to tackle the problem again.
- Set reasonable goals. There are only 24 hours in a day. Don’t schedule more things than you can comfortably handle. Unreasonable goals are discouraging and counterproductive.
Time management is always a work in progress. Be patient with yourself (and your kids) as you transition to a streamlined way of doing things.
