Homeschoooling can be a lot of work. But running a daycare center isn’t a walk in the park either. Now imagine adding the two components and you understand what a remarkable achievement this is.
Franchesca David is an amazing woman. (And I’m not just saying that because she’s my best friend and might beat me up after reading this.)
She was a “suddenly” single mom with five children ranging in age from three to thirteen. Her breakup was unexpected so besides mothering five kids, and running a home, she’s also running a business while homeschooling three of the five children. And doing a darn good job of it too! (Okay, I may be just a little biased.)
Franchesca has worked in and around the daycare profession for much of her adult life. Although an accomplished baker and aspiring caterer she realized after becoming a mom that the food industry was not one that would be conducive to her goals as a mom.
Her first experience working in the daycare field happened while in Brooklyn, New York. After the birth of her eldest child sixteen years ago, Franchesca realized that the best way for her to work and take care of her son was by working for a daycare center, so there she went. While there she discovered that she really enjoyed working with little ones, so it was a good fit.
Fast forward to 2005 — Fran and her husband were struggling to make ends meet. After considering all of her options, including the fact that she now had three little ones under the age of four, she decided to take children in as a means of earning some extra money.
Soon after this she and her husband split up, so Fran decided to take her idea to the next level and found a low-cost rental space to open up her own daycare center called “Creative Child Child Care” in the Poconos. Her summer programs were well received and she established strong relationships with the community and the parents of the children in her charge.
And the rest, as they say, is history. So, now that you have the back story, let’s hear some of Franchesca’s thoughts on ways to make your daycare/babysitting service mesh with your homeschooling goals.
